James Barnett was a 56-year-old mate from Pennsylvania who served aboard the merchant ship Bury. During the War of 1812, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown, England. Barnett died on December 8, 1814, with peri pneumonia recorded as his cause of death. He was buried at the American Prisoner of War Cemetery in Dartmoor Forest, Devon, England.
