Peter Barry was a 39-year-old seaman from Salem who served aboard the merchant ship Jalouse. During the War of 1812, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown, England. Barry died on November 26, 1814, having been found dead in his hammock. He was buried at the American Prisoner of War Cemetery in Dartmoor Forest, Devon, England.
