Henry Hoppe was born on October 20, 1918 in Syracuse, New York. He resided in Onondaga County, New York prior to the war. A graduate of Assumption Academy, he had been employed at the Brown-Lipe-Chapin plant prior to his enlistment. He trained at Key Field, Miss., and received his wings at McDill Field, Fla.

Henry served as a Staff Sergeant on B-26B #41-31848, 553rd Bomber Squadron, 386th Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was Killed in Action when his B-26, having been damaged on a bombing mission, crashed into the English Channel.

SSgt Hoppe is now buried in the Ardennes American Cemetery, Neupré, Belgium.
