Robert Stephen Molnar was born in 1920 in Mingo Junction, Ohio. He was the son of George M. Molnar and Mary E. Zrelak Molnar. He resided in Jefferson County, Ohio prior to the war.

Robert served as a Second Lieutenant and Co-Pilot on B-26B #41-31597, 553rd Bomber Squadron, 386th Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. He was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-26B was shot down by German Fw 190 fighters and crashed just off the coast in the North Sea. His name is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands.
