Joe Drummond Nelson was born on December 10, 1916. He was the son of Paul Alvin Nelson and Nita Mary Drummond Nelson. He served in the 857th Bomber Squadron, 492nd Bomber Group, Heavy, and in detached service in the 1st Scouting Force as a First Lieutenant during World War II. He was killed at Ridgewell, England while demonstrating the agility of the Mustang P-51 #4472335. 1Lt Nelson is now buried in the Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, United Kingdom.
