Peter Birch was a 57-year-old seaman from Philadelphia who served aboard the merchant ship Prosperity. During the War of 1812, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown, England. Birch died on March 13, 1815, with peripneumonia recorded as his cause of death.
