Malcolm St MacDonald entered the military service in Florida. He served in the 554th Bomb Squadron, 386th Bomber Group, Medium, as a First Lieutenant and Pilot of the #43-34211 RU*K during World War II.

On August 18, 1944, his crew took off from Station 164 airfield in Great Dunmow, England on a mission to bomb the ammunition depot in L'Isle-Adam, France. Shot by flak at 12:45PM, their plane crashed at Cne de Marines, 12km north-west of Pontoise, France. All of the crew members survived the crash except for the Pilot. 3 members were taken as prisoners and 2 escaped.

1Lt MacDonald is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France.
