Charles Albert Miller was born on March 3, 1917, in the District of Columbia. He was assigned to the 555th Bomber Squadron, 386th Bomber Group, Medium while serving in the Army Air Forces.
He was piloting a B-26 Martin Marauder bomber (Tail Number 41-31947) on a mission against military installations in Northwest France when his plane was damaged by anti-aircraft fire over St-Pol-Sur-Ternoise, France at 13:41. The plane crashed in flames with its load of bombs, killing him. 1Lt Miller was seriously injured by the flak - perhaps attempted to land the plane after the evacuation of the crew. His five crew members successfully landed by parachute but were all taken as prisoners.
1Lt Miller is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-Sur-Mer, France.
