ack Vernon Harless was born on September 11, 1924, in Caldwell County, North Carolina. He was the son of James Vernon Harless and Pearl Looney Harless. He served in the 315th Squadron, 443rd Troop Carrier Group, as a Flight Officer during World War II. He was Killed in Action co-piloting the C-46D Commando #44-78200 in the China-Burma-India theatre of operations. F/O Harless is now buried in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery, Lenoir, Caldwell County, North Carolina, USA.
