John Carson was a 26-year-old seaman from New Orleans who served aboard the merchant ship Flash. During the War of 1812, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown, England. Carson died on October 16, 1814, with pneumonia recorded as his cause of death. He was buried at the American Prisoner of War Cemetery in Dartmoor Forest, Devon, England.
