Daniel Carter was a 26-year-old seaman from Virginia who served aboard the merchant ship Zebra. During the War of 1812, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown, England. Carter died on October 6, 1814, with pneumonia recorded as his cause of death.
