Simon Clark was a 16-year-old seaman from North Carolina who served aboard the merchant ship Snapdragon. During the War of 1812, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown, England. Clarke died on January 24, 1815, with variola recorded as his cause of death. He was buried at the American Prisoner of War Cemetery in Dartmoor Forest, Devon, England.
