Ramos Coffee was a 26-year-old seaman from Long Island who served aboard the merchant ship Portsmouth. During the War of 1812, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown, England. Coffee died on December 4, 1814, with peripneumonia recorded as his cause of death. He was buried at the American Prisoner of War Cemetery in Dartmoor Forest, Devon, England.
