James Congdon was a 19-year-old seaman from Rhode Island who served aboard the merchant ship Mary. During the War of 1812, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown, England. Congdon died on November 11, 1814, with rubella recorded as his cause of death. He was buried at the American Prisoner of War Cemetery in Dartmoor Forest, Devon, England.
