Ventus Conklin was a 20-year-old seaman from New York who served aboard the merchant ship Herald. During the War of 1812, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown, England. Conklin died on June 23, 1815, with phithis recorded as his cause of death. He was buried at the American Prisoner of War Cemetery in Dartmoor Forest, Devon, England.
