Ferris Sheldon Harris, Jr. was born on July 10, 1921, in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama. He was the son of Ferris Sheldon and Elizabeth Jane Doak Harris.

Ferris, Jr. served in the 336th Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter Group, as a First Lieutenant and pilot of the P-51C #42-103796 VF*Q during World War II. On August 28, 1944, he took off from Station 356 airfield in Debden, England. He was shot down by flak around 08:45 while strafing a train west of Strasbourg, France.

1Lt Harris is now buried in the Forest Park Cemetery, Houston, Harris County, Texas, USA.
