Robert Douglas "Bob" Hobert was born on July 26, 1921. He served in the 336th Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter Group, as a Captain during World War II. He was piloting the P-51B Mustang #43-6836 at the time of his death.

On April 5, 1944, his aircraft was struck in the coolant system, forcing him to ditch in the English Channel on the way back to Debden, England. He was picked up by ASR that evening but succumbed to the effects of exposure at 0130 in Martlesham Hospital on April 6.

Cpt Hobert is now buried in the Park Hill Cemetery, Vancouver, Clark County, Washington, USA.
