William W. Hunt was born in 1921 in New Mexico. He served in the 335th Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter Group, as a First Lieutenant during World War II.
Piloting the P-51B-7-NA #43-6901 WD-G on May 24, 1944, his aircraft was struck by flak while strafing southeast of Berlin. With his section leader as an escort, he turned for home with oil streaming from his engine. Limping along at a low altitude, his aircraft was struck again by flak and exploded in midair. 1Lt Hunt was killed in action, southwest of Kremmen, Germany.
He is now buried in the Ardennes American Cemetery, Neupré, Belgium.
