George B. Abbott was born on September 2, 1899, to Charles B Abbott and Edna Whitney Abbott of Southland, California, George Abbott was the oldest among them. He had served with the US Navy during World War I before enlisting again into the Army Air Force shortly after World War II broke out. He served in the 24th Combat Mapping Squadron, 8th Photographic Group, as a Master Sergeant and Engineer on the F-7A #42-64189. He was Killed in Action on August 11, 1944, when his plane went down over "The Hump" (the Himalaya mountains between India and China) and is now buried in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Lemay, St. Louis County, Missouri, USA, in a common grave with his crew.
