Lloyd G. Kingham was born on July 24, 1917, in Nevada. He graduated from high school there in 1935. Before Pearl Harbor, he joined the Canadian Air Forces, for the American Air Corps did not accept him because of his height.
He trained in Canada, was transferred to England where he became a noted reconnaissance pilot. Then he was finally permitted to fly for his own country. He left the reconnaissance and became a pilot of a Mustang.
Lloyd served in the 335th Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter Group, as a First Lieutenant. He was piloting the P-51 Mustang #44-13641 at the time of his death. On July 22, 1944, he succumbed to vertigo while climbing through a solid overcast outbound while on a mission and spun in 2 miles west of Littlebury, England. He was killed in the flight accident.
1Lt Kingham is now buried in the Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, United Kingdom.
