Ivan Royal Moon was born in 1923 in Florida. He was the son of John Simmons Moon and Alice Royal Moon. He was married to Sylvia Assels Renouf.
1Lt Moon was a pilot with the 8th Fighter Command, 4th Fighter Group, 334th Fighter Squadron. He was flying P-47C 41-6587 on a bomber escort mission. As they crossed the coast south of Kijkduin, Holland, they were attacked by a large number of German ME-109 fighters. During the melee, 1Lt Moon was shot down. He was seen to go down in the vicinity of Opmeer, Netherlands, but no chute has observed.
1Lt Moon is now buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands.
