Richard I. Reed was born on July 20, 1920. He was the son of Irl Stratton Reed and Mary Gould Reed.

Richard served in the 335th Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter Group, as a First Lieutenant during World War II. On February 20, 1944, piloting the P-47 #42-75051, he was shot down during an engagement northeast of Koblenz, Germany. Not seen to go down, his aircraft crashed at Seraing, Belgium.

1Lt Reed is now buried in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Saint Petersburg, Pinellas County, Florida, USA.
