James Frederick Scott was born on August 8, 1920. He was the son of Churchill Lasalle Scott and Cherrie Isabell Cunningham Scott.

James served in the 334th Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter Group, as a First Lieutenant and pilot of the P-51B-10-NA #43-7150 QP*P during World War II. He took part in the invasion of France, shooting down a German plane on D-Day.

On June 8, 1944, he took off from Station 356 airfield in Debden, England, on a mission to destroy railways in Sarthe, France. His aircraft collided with that of Lt. Allen during the attack on a bridge, severing the tail of his Mustang. His airplane crashed at Ecommoy - 18 km south of Le Mans.

1Lt Scott is now buried in the Greenleaf Cemetery, Brownwood, Brown County, Texas, USA.
