Kenneth Boyd Smith was born on March 6, 1919, in Curwensville, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Boyd William Smith and Helen Blandine Kramer Smith. He was married to D Regeina Smith. Kenneth entered the US Army Air Force in June 1942 and served in the 336th Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter Group, as a Second Lieutenant during World War II. He was sent to England in March 1944.

2Lt Smith was killed in a flight accident aboard his P-51 #42-106673 'Hey Rube' on June 7, 1944. His aircraft collided with Lt. Pierini's s #43-6714 shortly after takeoff and crashed 3 miles west of Chipping Ongar, England. 2Lt Smith is now buried in the Watsontown Cemetery, Watsontown, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, USA.
