Robert Lee Stallings was born in 1918 in Indiana. He served in the 335th Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter Group, as a First Lieutenant during World War II. He was piloting the P-51 Mustang #44-11339 at the time of his death.
On January 17, 1945, 1Lt Stallings had mechanical issues that forced him to abort the mission and bail out over the English Channel 30 miles east of Lowestoft, England. The ASR was unable to locate him. The following day, 12 aircraft from Debden went up to search for him and located an upturned dinghy 33 miles east of Yarmouth, but no trace of Stallings was found.
1Lt Stallings was declared Missing in Action. His name is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, United Kingdom.
