Robert W. "Bob" White was born on March 7, 1918, in Jackson, Tennessee. He entered the RCAF in 1940 and was sent to England in December of the following year. He served with the RAF in Egypt for a year and was returned to Britain in 1942. He transferred to the American Air Forces in 1943.
Robert served in the 336th Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter Group, as a Second Lieutenant. On September 10, 1944, he was killed in the crash of his P-51B-7-NA #43-6891 VF-K at Boxted (Station F-150) on return from a mission. While attempting a dead stick landing, his aircraft exploded upon striking the ground. His current burial place is unknown.
