Garrett Castle King was born on August 12, 1915, in Neligh, Antelope County, Nebraska. He served in the 334th Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter Group, as a First Lieutenant during World War II.

1Lt Castle was killed in a flight accident aboard P-47 Thunderbolt #42-7875 on June 14, 1943. Communications were lost with King while he was on a local flight practicing a homing with MOR. Shortly after, his flaming aircraft crashed 2 miles E of Swaffham, England1. It is believed that his aircraft was struck by lightning while flying through a thunderhead.

1Lt King is now buried in the Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, United Kingdom.
