Peter Gerald Lehman was born on January 17, 1917, in Baltimore, Baltimore City, Maryland. He was the son of Herbert Henry Lehman and Edith Louise Altschul Lehman. 1Lt Lehman joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on September 22, 1941, after he was turned down by the American Air Force because he was married. Later, he transferred to the US Army Air Forces. He was serving the 336th Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter Group, as a First Lieutenant and piloting the P-51 #43-6844 at the time of his death.

1Lt Lehman was killed in a flight accident on March 31, 1944. Up on a local flight to practice dogfighting, his aircraft was seen to flip on its back and go straight into the deck. His aircraft crashed 2 miles west of Littlebury, England.

1Lt Lehman is now buried in the Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, United Kingdom.
