Amos Debates was a 22-year-old seaman who served aboard the merchant ship Ida. During the War of 1812, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown, England. Debates died on November 18, 1814, with pneumonia recorded as his cause of death. He was buried at the American Prisoner of War Cemetery in Dartmoor Forest, Devon, England.
