William Donald "Buzz" Riedel was born on September 3, 1919, in Denver, Colorado. He served in the 336th Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter Group, as a Captain during World War II.

Cpt Riedel was killed in a flight accident when the UC-64 Norseman, in which he was a passenger, crashed 20 miles SE of Schweinfurt, Germany. Poor weather was listed as the cause of the accident. Cpt Riedel is now buried in the Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, Fort Leavenworth, Leavenworth County, Kansas, USA.
