Hipolitus Thomas Biel was born on 28 July 1916 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He served in the 334th Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter Group, as a First Lieutenant during World War II.

1Lt Biel was Killed in Action on 24 April 1944 when his aircraft was downed in aerial combat after the group engaged a gaggle of 34 FW-190�s and ME109�s near Worms, Germany. He is now buried in the Calvary Cemetery, Saint Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota, USA.
