William Anson Cox was born on 6 January 1924 in Dallas, Texas. He was the son of John Richard Cox and Willie Ann Rushing Cox. He reived his education in the Dallas Public Schools and volunteered for the Air Corps on 18 August 1942 in Houston, Texas. He was trained at Forester Field near Victoria and was made Flight Officer there on 29 July 1943. He transferred to the European Area in October 1943 and was the Pilot of a P-47 Thunderbolt.

F/O Cox was Killed in Action on 3 February 1944. He became separated from his section leader “on account of clouds and icing conditions.” He was not seen to go down. His remains were never recovered, and he is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, United Kingdom.
