William Diamond was a 20-year-old seaman from Rhode Island who served aboard the merchant ship Mary Blockhead. During the War of 1812, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown, England. Diamond died on January 23, 1815, with variola recorded as his cause of death. He was buried at the American Prisoner of War Cemetery in Dartmoor Forest, Devon, England.
