He was Killed in Action on 19 June 1944 in a mid-air collision over the Atlantic Ocean, piloting P-38J #42-68189. 1Lt McClure was declared Missing in Action. His name is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-Sur-Mer, France. His name is also listed on the Anglo-American Memorial in Saffron Walden, England, but his middle initial is B.
