Norbert W. Rock was born in 1922 in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. He served in the 435th Fighter Squadron, 479th Fighter Group, as a First Lieutenant during World War II.

1Lt Rock was killed in a flight accident on 5 February 1945, when his aircraft (P-51 #44-14840) suffered a structural failure 10 miles north of Sheringham, England. His body was never recovered, and his name is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, United Kingdom.
