Robert R. Teeter entered military service in North Carolina. He served in the 436th Fighter Squadron, 479th Fighter Group, as a First Lieutenant during World War II.

1Lt Teeter had been in England in April 1944 and had been engaged in many bombing missions over Berlin and numerous other European targets before he was killed in an airplane accident in England. He was killed in training on 28 July 1944 in Wattisham, England. He is now buried in the Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, United Kingdom. His name is listed on the Anglo-American Memorial in Saffron Walden, England, but his middle initial is H.
