Harry Richard Crans was born on March 30, 1925, in Chippewa County, Wisconsin. He was the son of Luke Crans and Laura Crans.

Pvt Crans was 18 when he entered army service in June 1943, receiving a year of basic training at Fort Knox, KY., before being sent overseas. He was assigned as Rifleman (Military Occupation Specialty 745) in Company A, 38th Armored Infantry Battalion, 7th Armored Division during World War II. He died on November 4, 1944, at the age of 19, in Ospel, Netherlands, and is now buried in the Boscobel Cemetery, Boscobel, Grant County, Wisconsin, USA.
