Harold William Gess was born on June 11, 1922, in Boise, Idaho. He was the son of Orville Clayton Gess and Bertha Irene Copley Gess.
Sgt Gess was assigned as Squad Leader (Military Occupation Specialty 653) in Company C, 38th Armored Infantry Battalion, 7th Armored Division during World War II. He was Killed in Action in the vicinity of Winnerstraat, Netherlands, on November 7, 1944. He is now buried in the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, Hombourg, Belgium.
