Edward Evans was a 27-year-old seaman from Virginia who served aboard the merchant ship North Star. During the War of 1812, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown, England. Evans died on January 5, 1815, with peripneumonia recorded as his cause of death. He was buried at the American Prisoner of War Cemetery in Dartmoor Forest, Devon, England.
