Philip R. Holcomb was born on July 18, 1912, in Vernon, Texas. He was the son of Benjamin Franklin Holcomb and Leona Billie Hogue Holcomb.

Philip served in the 702nd Tank Destroyer Battalion as a Second Lieutenant during World War II. He died on September 19, 1944, in France, at the age of 32, and is now buried in the Perkins Cemetery, Perkins, Payne County, Oklahoma, USA. 2Lt Holcomb was one of the 65 soldiers killed in battle during the liberation of the Limburg region of the Netherlands and Belgium.
