Archie Paul Layton was born on August 22, 1921, in Stoddard County, Missouri. He was the son of William Thomas "Willie or Bill" Layton and Alice Lorene Travis Layton Needham.
Archie served in the 67th Armored Regiment, 2nd Armored Division, as a Private during World War II. He died on September 16, 1944, and is now buried in the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, Hombourg, Belgium. Pvt Layton was one of the 65 soldiers killed in battle during the liberation of the Limburg region of the Netherlands and Belgium.
