William Thomas “Buddy” Mashburn was born on November 1, 1922, in Chicora, Mississippi. He was the son of Hamilton Elmore Mashburn and Thomas 'Clyde' Williams Mashburn.

William served in the 67th Armored Regiment, 2nd Armored Division, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on September 16, 1944, near Amby, Holland, while on a special reconnaissance mission. He is now buried in the Evergreen Cemetery, Gainesville, Alachua County, Florida, USA. PFC Mashburn was one of the 65 soldiers killed in battle during the liberation of the Limburg region of the Netherlands and Belgium.
