Sydney R. Miller resided in Cumberland County, Maine prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army on March 27, 1942, in Portland, Maine. He was noted as being employed as a Hotel and restaurant manager and also as Single, without dependents.

Sydney served as a Second Lieutenant, 41st Infantry Battalion, 2nd Armored Division, U.S. Army during World War II. He was Killed in Action on September 19, 1944, in France, and is now buried in the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, Hombourg, Belgium. 2Lt Miller was one of the 65 soldiers killed in battle during the liberation of the Limburg region of the Netherlands and Belgium.
