Elmer Charles Dudolski was born on June 4, 1919, in Gladbrook, Iowa. He was graduated from Gladbrook high school in 1936 and farmed until he was inducted into the army on Sept. 23, 1942.
Elmer graduated as a Second Lieutenant from the Army Forces pilot school at Napier Field, Dothan, Ala., Aug. 23, 1943.
1Lt Dudolsky was a fighter pilot attached to a bomber squadron, and he piloted a Thunderbolt fighter (P-47). On June 22, 1944, he took off from Station 417 in Ashford, England on a strafing mission to Cherbourg, France. His plane was shot down by flak, and he evacuated by parachute, at 13h50. The airplane crashed into Tollevast - 6 km S from Cherbourg. His grave was found with his name and number, not far from Cherbourg. 1Lt Dudolsky is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-Sur-Mer, France.
