Lewis Alfred Burton, Jr. was born in 1919. He was the son of Louis Albert and Lillian Catherine Stroupe Watts Burton.

Lewis served in the 514th Fighter Squadron, 406th Fighter Group, as a First Lieutenant and Pilot of the P-47 D-5-RE #42-8625 during World War II. On June 17, 1944, he took off from Station 417 airfield in Ashford, England, on an armed reconnaissance mission to Lessay, France. He was killed when his plane crashed between Lessay and Périers, probably shot by flak at 10:35. 1Lt Burton is now buried in the Westview Cemetery, Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia, USA.
