Comments:
Robert E. Allen entered military service in Illinois. He served in the 43rd Troop Squadron, 315th Troop Carrier Group, as a Staff Sergeant and a crew member on the C-47A #43-15256 in World War II.
The crew was taking part in 'Operation Varsity' on March 24, 1945. While approaching Wesel, Germany, the aircraft was shot down by flak and crashed in a field, killing three crew members and injuring two others.
2Lt Allen is now buried in the Ardennes American Cemetery, Neupré, Belgium.
