Thomas Greaves was a 28-year-old seaman from Boston who served aboard the merchant ship Port Mahon. During the War of 1812, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown, England. Greaves died on February 23, 1815, with variola recorded as his cause of death. He was buried at the American Prisoner of War Cemetery in Dartmoor Forest, Devon, England.
