John Grey was a 20-year-old seaman from Richmond who served aboard the merchant ship Paul Jones. During the War of 1812, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown, England. Grey died on April 26, 1815, with “amputated arms” recorded as his cause of death. He was buried at the American Prisoner of War Cemetery in Dartmoor Forest, Devon, England.
