Richard Gerald Hoyt was born in 1921. He was the son of Albert S Hoyt and Lillian E Hoyt.

He served in the 309th Troop Carrier Squadron, 315th Troop Carrier Group, as a Technical Sergeant during World War II. Technical Sergeant Hoyt was killed in a mid-air collision of the Douglas C-47A-10-DK Skytrain 42-108873 and C-47A 43-15341 on July 8, 1944, during mass paratroop exercise and crashed near Tinwell, England. A total of 8 crew and 26 paratroopers in both aircraft died.

TSgt Hoyt is now buried in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana, USA. His name is listed on the monument in RAF Spanhoe, England, but his middle initial is C.
