Charles E. Martin was born on September 21, 1918. He served in the 43rd Troop Carrier Squadron, 315th Troop Carrier Group, as a First Lieutenant during World War II. A crew member on the C-47 43-15251, he was killed in the crash of their aircraft when it was shot down by German flak while pulling in a troop-carrying glider on approach to Wesel. The airplane crashed in a field, killing all four crew members:
